Nimue's Song: A Lost Tale.

"I have been silent for far too long,

The truth must be spoken so hear my song,

Will you hear the words of a heart that sighs,

Or cling to an old monk's dusty lies?

Hear me now and my tale of woe,

A tale of love that spirits know,

A tale of above, a tale of below,

A tale of here and now and long ago,

The moonlit huntress daughter, I,

Came to you through a watery sky,

You knew my face,

You spoke my name,

And in that place we lit a flame,

Star-seed children, Kindred souls,

Torn asunder, together we're whole,

At once we knew,

In morning dew,

What it meant to be as one

The magic grew strong as I lay in your arms,

And it's true when they say,

That you taught me your charms,

You showed me the sun,

But I showed you the moon,

Together we danced a writhing Beltane tune

We were the land, the land was us,

We opened our hearts to sacred trust,

We loved and the blessed balance kept,

We fought and the sky with thunder wept

I am the keeper of the door,

But you unlock my evermore,

Come sing of love, and I'll set you free,

Under ancient hawthorn tree

Then came all the wars of mortal men,

And chaos ruled the ways again,

We studied their hearts, their loves and fears,

We watched and waited, for all those years

In deep Annwn was born a sword,

From fire and Ice and Stone was't forged,

It waited silent in my guard,

To heal the shattered throne

So you brought forth a shining soul,

To bear the sword and make the land whole,

But light will always darkness bring,

And shadows lay in the fate of this king,

And though you knew, his end you saw,

You could not break the sacred law,

Heavy it lay upon your heart,

And we danced in glade no more

"So little time", I wept to know,

"But the land and I both need you so!"

You asked to die with a pleading face,

And your life began to fade

But I could never, never let that be,

And I wept as I took you to our hawthorn tree,

Within the land of moonless sky,

Your voice became a whispered cry...

"The stars are cold without you love,

I need to touch and hold you, love,

Need your heart to make me whole,

need your love to set me free..."

Merlin love, my souls true fire,

I never betrayed you, I am no liar!

I hold you still within my heart,

Always together, forever apart

I am the keeper of the door,

I am the holder of the key,

I'll sing your song of Nevermore,

Under ancient hawthorn tree

But when the sword does rise again,

And when , at last, the land's reborn,

Your heart will beat with mine again,

And we will love,

And we will love,

And we will dance once more..."
I don't normally post my poetry, but I think one or two of you may appreciate this...

This is truly a lovely piece of poetry!
I love the way you change the rythm every couple of verses, and the way the rhymes correspond to each other. It really gives the impression of a "song" rather than just a poem. It brings the reader that much more into the story. I just love the way you portray the tragic love story between Merlin and Nimue, and how the fates of men get entangled with their emotions. Really a lovely piece! :)
